July 15th

Another gorgeous day - it was in the 70's by 9am. We left on schedule at 11:00 - right after Jon & Harv left for another full day of fishing. They weren't planning to be back until after dinner.

Our trip to Campbell River was uneventful after Rod got the engines going - at first one of the engines didn't start as it had been connected to the 2 bad batteries we are replacing. The engines hadn't been run for almost 11 days while we were rafted.

After we got tied up to the Ocean Pacific Boatyard in Campbell River, we walked to the grocery store & stocked up with the amount of things we could carry back to the boat. While I put things away, Rod made a trip to the liquor store to top off our supply before Heather & Dylan arrive (: (We certainly don't want to run out while they're here!!!)

When Rod signed in at the Ocean Pacific Boat Yard for our battery work he was told that a boat that had gone aground on Hernando Island would be arriving next to our boat sometime in the eveving. The boat had broken loose from a mooring and drifted onto the shore. There was no one onboard at the time. The keel was broken off just ahead of the shafts. This caused the boat to partially sink. The salvage team got airbags under the boat and kept it from sinking completely. They made temporary repairs so the boat could be towed to Campbell River and hauled out of the water. It was very educational to see the salvage team and the boat yard work together to limit the damage to the vessel. (Per Rod)

We took advantage of being at a dock & went to a pub that was recommended for dinner. Of course, our departure to eat was delayed until after the salvage boat was safely on land - Rod did not want to miss any of that activity or picture opportunities! After dinner we went back to the grocery store to pick up the rest of our list.
