July 13th

Jon knocked on the door about 5:45am to say it would be another fishing day. Rod had less than 30 minutes to get dressed & ready to go. It was about 56' when they left. The guys returned at 8pm with 8 salmon. (I don't get the 14 hour fishing draw...must be a guy thing!!!)

Yup, it is "a guy thing". We spent the morning trolling around on the rippled waters off of Cape Mudge near Campbell River. I think we caught five fish before we went to Campbell River for fuel and lunch. After lunch we returned to the smooth waters off of Cape Mudge. There were lots of fishermen out because it was Saturday. We landed three more fish before making the one hour trip back to our boats rafted just outside Prideaux Haven. Fishing is fun, but catching is even better. (Captain Rod)

It turned into another beautiful day - temps got to mid 70's. A couple more boats came into our bay tonight - both SYC boats. One of them is here every summer in the same spot for 4-6 weeks. Pete stays on the boat the whole time & his wife flies in & out for short peiods of time as she's still working.

Dinner was really late - I think we sat down at 10:00 as Jon got all the fish cut up & in the brine to ready it for smoking before we ate. Dinner was barbequed steaks (chicken for Maggie who doesn't eat meat), salad & pasta. It continues to amaze me how dinner just falls together every night, usually depending on whether or not the boys catch fish. Each person contributes 1 dish, occasionally 2. We talk in the morning or early afternoon to decide who is doing what & it always turns into a wonderful meal.

The other decision is which boat to eat on - outside or in. We have been going between Lois & Maggie's boats (only once on ours) as they enter from the swim step. That's much easier for the 3 dogs who are always there. To get on our boat you have to go up our ladder from the swim step which means handing the dogs up. It's a little more challenging for the adults too as food, drinks, plates & utensils also go back & forth. So far, only 1 of our knives has ended up in the ocean!
