Aug. 11th - Rebecca Spit

This morning we woke up to fog once again, but it was burning off by 9:00 & blue sky by 10:00 at Blind Channel - in the 60's when we left at 11:30. We're heading to Rebecca Spit which is close to Campbell River where we're headed tomorrow. We'll anchor out.

We went through 2 sets of rapids again - Arran & Yuculta - they are back to back. There are only 2 times a day you can go through easily - our choices were to leave at 6am or noon. As we were approaching Arran, I counted at least 18 boats going our direction & boats come the other direction as well. As we turned the corner to head into the rapids, we saw a large barge with a tug pushing it heading into the mix with a large truck on it. Wind got up to 22 knots. The boats all lined up to go through single file so boats going the other direction would have plenty of room.

Around 3:30 it started raining - haven't seen that in a long time! We got to Rebecca Spit around 5:00. We experienced the bumpiest ride we've had on our trip when we crossed over to Rebecca Spit. I guess we were somewhat close to the Georgia Straits & they were predicted to be bad today per our friend Jon when Rod skyped with him on the way here. Reminded me of how spoiled we've been on this trip - flat water all the way until this little stretch.
